Having lived on Lake Pontchartrain for nearly a decade, our flood and named-peril, wind&hail nearly tripled this year. We have spent substantial sums over the past 6 years to elevate several feet above FEMA levels, upgrade our roof with standing seam metal, replace old wood siding with hardi. And now with a deminimus threat of damage to our home and at a time when we should be rewarded with a premium reduction, instead we're insulted with this kind of rate hike?
I feel extremely fortunate that (1) my mortgage is paid off and (2) we are extremely storm-hardened, so we have the wherewithal to just drop flood, wind and hail policies -- on day 1 of this recent decision, I will be ahead on any damage of less than $40,000 to my home, and that figure goes up by >$10,000 each year ... and without any hassle of an insulting and slow insurance claims process!!!
Many Louisiana residents, suffering under arguably the worst public education in the country and perhaps the most lethargic economy in the country are now having their biggest investment - their home - collapsed under the weight of these destructive and often unavoidable policy changes.
Louisiana is such a wonderful PLACE to live, despite otherwise being essentially a 3rd World island nation unto itself. I am certainly looking forward to a new administration in Baton Rouge releasing us from the corruption and isolation of the past generation(s) and enabling our state back into the Continental U.S.
Thank you Jeff. I live between New Iberia and Delcambre. My house has never flooded. Not even for hurricane Rita. But my house insurance has gone up from 500 a year to almost 3000 a year. We can not afford to pay these high bills

I support the move to Sue FEMA 100%! With all the problems we have as it is, dealing with flood insurance premiums should not be another one.
